I wish there were words I could use to describe this that I haven't used to describe movies before. It's that good. Meg Ryan, queen of the rom-coms, really worked her dramatic chops in this one, and her performance was absolutely wonderful.
(As were Andy Garcia's and Tina Marjorino's.) I'd recommend this to pretty much anyone with a heart.
