Review of What's Up, Doc? (1972) by Lenore S — 01 Feb 2009
Sometimes, a cast, a director, and a writer come together and comedy gold ensues. It's like catching lightning in a bottle and, even if you put them all together again, you'd never be able to replicate it - see 'Fierce Creatures' for an example).
This is simply daft fun, with an ingenious plot hinged on a farcical device of all the main characters having the same tartan holdall. Mayhem ensues. It homages the screwball comedies of the Cary Grant era and updates them for a streetwise audience.
I can safely say that, if you don't find yourself laughing at this, then you're sense of humour needs rebooting. It's in my Top Three favourite comedies of all time.
