Review of What's Up, Doc? (1950) by Meredith B — 18 May 2008
Well, first of all - it's the most ridiculous screwball comedy I've ever seen. Completely outlandish characters, and entirely improbable/coincidental plot points. However, Streisand and O'Neal are charming - all the more so for all the chaos going on around them.
I think Streisand really makes the movie - she's just luminous and effortless. It's a nice movie for a diversion, a light chuckle, but not for anyone who is looking for a "smart" comedy.
If you like the madcap genre, then I'm sure it's a delight, but it was a bit too zany for me.
