Angela Bassett's best performance as Anna Mae Bullock, better known by her stage name Tina Turner. Follow her career as Ike Turner discovers her and immediately sees her as his ticket to stardom. She's swept up by him and with her awesome voice fueling their music they both become successful and married.

Or, he becomes successful, she just becomes married. Laurence Fishburne plays Ike as a control freak who micro-manages everyone around him and flies into rages over the simplest disagreements leaving broken bones and bruises on all around him.

Anna Mae eventually escapes and her solo career blossoms beyond any success Ike could have dreamed. Soaring musical numbers.
