Review of What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993) by Sam D — 11 Apr 2014
I love this movie! It's funny, sensitive, powerful and just very real! Living in a small town myself, this movie is scarily close to home in a lot of it's messages and characters, they have captured the small town feel, and how it is to be a young adult in such a place, so well.
The actors give great performances and you really connect and feel for them. The one down side was Gilbert's affair with an older woman, which, although probably needed in the film, I found rather disturbing.
But that said, this would have to be one of my favorite little-known films. A very personal and emotionally touching experience.
