A portrait of a family stricken by loss. This type of thing happens in families all the time, and there but for the grace of God goes the rest of us. Leonardo DiCaprio's portrayal of the mentally disabled Arnie Grape was so good that I kept forgetting who the actor was.
What's eating Gilbert Grape? He's not going anywhere! The ending is uplifting.
