Review of What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993) by John H — 11 Jul 2013
An awe-inspiring family drama, that is a wonderfully intelligent and beautiful tale. It is quite woven and bound so poignantly. Some pieces of the story seem a bit contrived, especially near the middle. On the other hand, the story is marvelously wrapped up by the ending, possibly the most emotionally paining point in the entire film. It's a film that assesses family troubles in a hopeful light. One of the best family dramas, I've ever came to watch.
DiCaprio is perfect to the last twitch and squeal, and anyone who has ever spent time with mentally challenged kids will be hard-pressed to spot a flaw. As for Johnny Depp, he portrayed a role of a responsible man, and he couldn't do it more better. A must watch.
