Review of Whatever Works (2009) by Mike G — 23 Jul 2010
I'd read that this wasn't one of Woody Allen's best (and it isn't) and I'd read that it's predictable (and in places it is) and I'd read that it's self indulgent (and it occasionally is).
Nevertheless, I really enjoyed it. Larry David is good playing Woody Allen, making some great observations on life while making a living teaching chess to kids. I laughed out loud quite a lot and actually felt a bit sorry for him when his young dim witted southern girlfriend left him, as we knew she always would.
And it was good to see Ed Begley jr back in a good film.....
