Review of Whatever Works (2009) by Alec B — 31 Aug 2010
The casting of Larry David in the lead role is what makes it finally work for me. The movie on the whole is weirdly sentimental for Woody Allen, he has done sweat natured movies to be sure (See 'Everyone Says I Love You'), but they always had a bit of an edge to them and an earnestness that I liked.
This movie isn't all bad, as I said before I think David is great and Allen gives him one or two great monologues. I just wish he hadn't gone for the sappy ending.
