Review of Whatever Works (2009) by Mikael K — 02 Jan 2011
This previously unproduced early script from Allen is one of his best. The cast doesn't hurt the story either as they're quite perfect in their quirky and surprisingly complex roles.
This is a true quality comedy that manages to spin some of Allen's less impressive recurring soap opera / relationship themes with a fresh and ironic touch. The dialog is sharp, allowing for some biting commentary to spice up the farcical but sympathetic plot twists. If whatever works is the spec, âWhatever Worksâ? shines bright and succeeds on all accounts.
