Review of Whatever Works (2009) by Valerie P — 14 Sep 2011
The problem with this film is that all of the witticism and satire is lost in translation when Larry David attempts Woody Allen. I realize that Woody is unable to pull off the roles he continues to write, and yet not many people have the ability to do what he does in front of the camera.
Larry David may have been saying the exact things Woody would of said, but I just didn't care about him. He didn't come across as at all likeable, not even in that pathetically vulnerable way that most Allen characters convey.
If you're not behind the leading role, it's hard to get along well with the rest of the film. Good concepts... could have been funny... but I blame Larry David.
