Review of Whatever Works (2009) by Lisa Michelle A — 27 Jan 2012
Similar to its title and recurring theme, this typical Allen Big Apple comedy somehow âworksâ? as a result of solid humor and dialogue and despite odd storylines and characters difficult to connect with.
David's shtick fits perfectly with Allen's brand of humor although, similar to Allen, you can only take a certain dose of the anxiety and cynicism at one time. If David isn't your cup of tea, you will nevertheless enjoy the supporting performances from Wood and Clarkson.
The suggestion that many people look for an ideal relationship, but wind up in successful relationships where they least expected was well conveyed even though it was built with hyperbole.
