Review of What Women Want (2011) by Movie K — 01 Mar 2011

HK version of What Women Want from Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt. Andy Lau and Gong Li are good looking. Andy is the creative director in a advertising company who is smooth talker with ladies. He is divorced and has a cute daughter.

The executive creative director post Andy is eyeing he will get it. Andy met Gong Li in the lift and try to smooth talk her. Next day at the meeting, he talk to her about the company and he is powerful man.

Gong Li got the post and she was from the rival company. She is good and tough. She hands out stuffs that woman use and wants everyone to use the stuffs, in order to relate and know how to sell woman stuffs.

Andy tried on everything... pills, pad, stocking, lipstick, heels... His daughter and boyfriend bump into him in drag. He slip and fall into the bathtub and got electricuted. When he woke up at hospital, he can listen to the thoughts of woman.

First been the nurse who think he is pervert. He tries to get shock again to remove the ability but to no avail. The housekeeper inspire him to make use of the ability and win women over. He realise the women in his office actually don't like him.

He hear the thoughts of Gong Li who want to get a big deal. She is surprise he know about it as its a secret. He stole her ideas a few times. Gong Li assume he is stealing her idea by using his twins assistant to eavesdrop.

The boss convince her he won't do such a thing. Gong Li finally meet her online pal Russell Wong and the dinner date was quite disastrous, bumping into Andy and later boss. Russell is a head hunter and poaching Gong Li to Shanghai but she assure boss not going off.

A not so pretty small employee is sad when people knock her. Andy pick up the stuffs for her and know her name. She is wondering what she will do for the commercial and Andy thinks its great and pitch that idea.

Andy dates her, sing for her and both are getting closer, work together for the deal. It is successful and Gong Li also bought an apartment. The boss has to fire high salary worker like her to cut cost and she packs up.

Andy want to reveal truth to her but she don't buy it. He got strike by lightning and no more power left. At his father's concert, Gong Li appears after backing out of following Russell to Shanghai.

Love conquers all. The ending has both of them kissing in the office, door state Gong Li back as the executive creative director.
