Director Meyers paces things poorly and gives equal weight to too many elements, while some terrific supporting players get short shrift in a script that strains to find humour and insight when the potential was there for a cracking 90 minutes.
But Gibson is an eminently watchable bundle of charm throughout his jaunt from oaf to Mr. Wonderful.
