Review of What We Do in the Shadows (2014) by Jamie J — 29 Sep 2016
Delightfully surreal take on the mockumentary genre, focusing on the after hours activities of four vampire flatmates and their random associates.
Not really laugh out loud funny, although it does have its brief moments, instead I found myself more drawn into the surrealism of the whole thing, helped in no small part by the really well thought out special effects and camera trickery.
It's a real shame however that What we do in the shadows seems to have been marketed as a laugh a minute riot, as it really isn't. Instead you get a really dark and surreal black comedy. If you liked Black Sheep you will be at home here.
