Firstly I want to say that Billy Connolly plays an AMAZING Grandad! I want him as mine. The kids are also adorable, I wouldn't mind popping them in my pocket either. This was a nice Brit comedy by all accounts, but I have to say the actual storyline was a little unexpected! I had seen the trailer ahead of going to watch it, but it definitely doesn't give anything away really, not the bones of the story anyway.
So, the film is based around an event which takes place while the McLeod family are visiting their counterparts in Scotland for Gordie's (Connolly) birthday party. The event then opens the whole family for scrutiny, reveals secrets, and makes them all take a very hard look at themselves.
This story is interwoven with typical Brit humour, providing a bittersweet story about modern family life.
