Review of What Time Is It There? (2001) by Matt G — 27 Sep 2009
With an opening scene that, upon a rewatch, may be the saddest opening scene in any movie I've seen, this is far and away my favorite film by Tsai. It is about grief, first and foremost. The grief of losing a person from the physical world, longing for another person to fill a gap in the metaphysical world.
It's about dragging your crippled soul down a hallway. It's about looking for a way to share love with another human being. This movie devastates me time and time again, has to be one of my favorites.
