This movie felt achingly reminiscent to my childhood. I've never seen a movie that reflected my parents so well. Unfortunately I didn't have the awesome step parents to pull me from it. I thought Julianne Moore was 100% convincing in her role as the narcissistic mother.
The actress playing Maisie was wonderful and there were so many times my heart broke for her along the movie. This little girl had such courage and resilience. All in all it felt realistic, heartbreaking-- and heartwarming.
I really liked seeing Alexander Skaarsgard in this role, too.
