Review of What Maisie Knew (2013) by Zahra H — 01 Feb 2014
Another plane time filler which blew me away. It is rare I don't like a film which has Ms Moore in a pivotal role - this is no exception, though here she is playing a thoroughly dislikable rock star mother and is rightly upstaged by Onata Aprile as the young title star.
I'm sure in real life she's a precocious little Hollywood brat but here she gives a sorrowful and sensitive performance which pins together her birth parents break up and the inevitable blossoming of the relationship between their partners.
Based on a Henry James novel written more than a century ago but updated faithfully to modern times. Another one where I'd urge readers to get hold of the DVD.
