Review of What Lies Beneath (2000) by Dana D — 16 Jul 2008
Another Michelle Pfeiffer movie. Another great job done by Michelle Pfeiffer.
I was very interested to see this movie, as this kind of movie is not usually the type I would watch. But, with two great actors in it, I thought I'd give it a go. I was very disappointed by the way the story played out. I thought it was boring and not in the least bit scary (which wouldn't have bothered me except for the fact that it was meant to be scary). I still think Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford were wonderful, but the script and making of the movie was not at all believable. Now, I know ghosts and such are not supposed to be believed in, but this is a movie, and one is supposed to be able to be taken for a ride by it. Rather, the whole time I was rolling my eyes at just how fake it all was. And I am not bad at suspending disbelief so that I may enjoy a good movie; that is why I like fantasy so much! But this just didn't have enough action and was just a little too predictable for me. And I was dissatisfied with the way the movie ended, as I needed just a bit of closure on Claire's state of mind. All in all, I loved the trailer for this movie but ended up disappointed after watching it.
