Review of What Just Happened (2008) by Allen B — 05 Apr 2009
For a film that wants to be cuttingly insightful, this feels like we already have been there and done that many times. About the (mis)fortunes of a Hollywood producer (De Niro) through a film he has just made and a film he is about to make, the film comes off as predictable and shallow - and not in a good way, either.
Its biggest flaw is an inconsistency in style, a gloss-over of the most obvious things said about Hollywood by almost everyone (I could use the word cliche, but I won't!) and a mundane resolution makes this something you'd forget as the closing credits roll.
