Review of What Just Happened (2008) by Na D — 12 Dec 2010
So so movie. Good to see De Niro play something different and to play a character that doesn't have his usual perceived hard ass persona. He is quality as a down on his luck movie producer in this.
The film is stolen completely by another actor acting against type though, kudos to the great Michael Wincott. Wincott is one of the best 'baddie' actors out there and is vastly underrated. He's great in this as a narcissistic director.
Bruce Willis also has a superb cameo. Anyone that would like to know what a movie producer in Hollywood does and the crap that they have to put up with should give this a watch. It's not as biting as Swimming With Sharks (or frankly as good) but it was decent enough.
It's definitely one for film buffs and fans of 'acting' films so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone whose interests lie mainly in mainstream cinema. If you are a fan of the fantastic TV series Entourage I'd definitely give it a watch as well, just don't expect this to be of the standard of that show.
