Music and mental illness collide in this excellent documentary. Trained as a classical pianist, Simone exploded into a jazz/soul phenomenon in the early 60's then migrated into an angry songstress of the civil rights movement.
Exceptional archive footage woven with recent and period interviews, this film explores her oft confusing and uneven career. Available on Netflix and shortlisted for an 2015 doc Oscar.
