A very intimately revealing biopic into the dramatic life of a dramatic musical icon. I had always loved her music and message, but had no idea of the tumultuous path she had lived with its emotional swings as she had to confront her own inner demons. She admits later in life how she wished she possessed her current wisdom in her youth as she confronted depression and regret over past decisions. But no matter what, she was one of the most honestly expressed musical artists in history and as I see it, that was her saving grace. From success, shifting gears from what she originally wanted to do, standing up for civil rights, rage, depression, a very troubled marriage and her experiencing the humbling downward spiral of her career into the dumps to then rise up to some notoriety again---Nina Simone seems to have gone through the gambit of life experiences that many people can learn some important lessons from.

Some amazing rare footage of her that I had no idea existed! Blended well with the telling of the tale.
