Review of What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962) by Ed Fucking H — 15 Mar 2011
Child star's often grow up to be maladjusted adults, and this is definently the case for Baby Jane Hudson played wonderfuly by Bette Davis. As a child she got all the attention, but when her Sister begins to make a name for herself in movies, Jane is overcome wit jealousy and run's her over with her car, crippling her.
As two washed up former celbrities the two sisters live together, with Jane providing for her now crippled sister. Jane has a fiery temper, is an alcoholic and something of a sadist as well constantly taking advantage of her sisters condition.
As the movie progressess Jane mask of sanity continues to slip, unitl she resorts to murder and kidnapping. Really a great film that sucks you in and does't let you go until the credits start to role.
The standout performance is definently Bette Davis, but Joan Crawford definently held her own here, and in a lot of ways I actually preferred her more subtle performance. A definent classic that everyone owes to themselves to see someday.
