Review of What Dreams May Come (1998) by Josh B — 16 Aug 2011
This challenges the question of "what makes a good film?".
There are many things that most films get right and are what we judge the quality of most films on and many of those things are done terribly in this film. Characters were boring and flat, acting was over exaggerated, visuals got repetitive. Even on a storytelling basis this film falls short in that it is overly simple and is full of "twists" which are highly predictable while at the same time annoyingly unrealistic.
On the other hand though, this film does raise some very interesting philosophical questions and provides a great almost instructional video on one very relevant interpretation of death.
