Review of What Doesn't Kill You (2008) by James H — 04 May 2009
A man trying to do the right thing struggles to support his family so turns back to crime to pay the bills. It's a familar premise which could have been very boring to watch but luckily Mark Ruffalo is a good actor and carries the film well.
It is quite slow but this film is more about the characters than the story. One of my only gripes is Donnie Wahlberg's character, who somehow just turns up in the film without much point, as if to say, 'hey, we've got Donnie Wahlberg in our movie'.
Things are tied up nicely at the end and it's refreshing to actually see one of the main characters in a film make the right choice for once.
