Review of Whale Rider (2003) by Kim S — 14 Jun 2008
Touching. I rather enjoyed the simplistic nature of it all, and I appreciate a movie about such a passionate people; who while they have maintained their tradition, haven't been completely untouched by the largely jaded attitudes of modern day society.
Keisha Castle-Hughes was outstanding here, and I agree entirely with those who nominated her for the Academy Award. The film makes me wish for a closer tie to my cultural heritage. Ultimately it is this that makes "Whale Rider" so beautiful.
