Review of Whale Rider (2003) by Alex C — 12 Jan 2009
One of the most moving films I've seen this decade. Keisha Castle-Hughes received a well-deserved Oscar nomination for her role as a young girl trying to learn the ways of her native New Zealand tribe, while also trying to win the respect of her grandfather.
The film is beautiful and one of those rare movie experiences where everybody in the theater realizes that you're watching a great movie with you. And the movie builds to many elegant and touching scenes that further elevate this film to a truly enchanting experience.
