Review of Whale Rider (2003) by Hamad S — 02 Jan 2011
Essentially a story about the conflicts between tradition and modernity, the script presented nothing new or ground-breaking. However, the performances of Paratene and Castle-Hughes did capture something novel and human as shown by the constant emotional struggles between grandfather and granddaughter, and so made the film compelling enough to watch to the (overly done) ending.
