Review of Whale Rider (2003) by Tom J — 14 Nov 2008
A great movie, and one to be enjoyed by both adults and children. Set in a male-dominated traditional Maori village, "Whale Rider" shows that girls are just as good as boys, and can be even better.
It is a reminder for all that each individual has it within to overcome the odds, now matter how impossible or unpopular it may seem. Finally, it is wise to consider that traditions aren't always right just because they are traditions.
If we are blind traditionalists, we can do harm by trying to do good.
