Review of Wet Hot American Summer (2001) by Megan B — 08 Dec 2009
Wet Hot American Summer is one of the funniest movies Iâ??ve ever seen and brought to you by the cast of the State. It is a comedy about the last day of summer camp in 1981 and everyone is trying to make the best of it given itâ??s there last chance to make things happen.
There is a large cast of talented comedians playing sex crazed councilors with various love triangles (Coop love Katie, Katie love Andy, Andy loves Lindsay). Veteran actors like Janeane Garolafa, Amy Poehler and Molly Shannon mentor the equally talented new comers Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks and always lovable Michael Showalter.
Even Christopher Meloni who is best known for catching rapist on Law And Order: SUV brings a rather funny performance as the insecure camp cook. The film is a parody of any 80â??s camp movie out there but is also uniquely its own.
Director David Wain filled the 97 minuets with so many jokes that every time you watch it youâ??ll notice something new. It balances its ridiculousness with a wink wink to the camera and just allows itself to be bizarre.
If you enjoy shows such as Reno 911! or Stella you will love Wet Hot. It is that same quirky and clever humor that makes it such a hit.
