Review of Wet Hot American Summer (2001) by Ryan C — 03 Jul 2015
Hilarious! I think the movie goes a little off the rails by the end, but mostly because it looses control of its own comedy when all the storylines come back together. Set in 1981, the movie follows teenage camp counselors played by actors in their twenties, the camp director and an astrophysics professor, and staff and campers on the last day of summer camp.
The film leaves no spoof, satire, or homage to 1980s movies untouched. The mix of comedy-parody, witty, slapstick, potty humor, etc.-mostly works together seamlessly. All of the actors are fantastic, including my personal favorites like Molly Shannon and Paul Rudd, and everyone is given an opportunity to shine.
