Review of Wet Hot American Summer (2001) by Connor C — 30 Jul 2015
As a film, Wet Hot American Summer doesn't really have much substance behind it or to it. Adding that to the fact that it being a comedy, you'd expect to laugh quite a bit, which is not the case unfortunately.
There are some laughs to be had, but with such a slapped-together feeling, it ruins the opportunities it is given by speeding past them. What the movie really boils down to is a comically large sandwich made of cheesy shoehorned movie moments and '80s movie cliches.
There are many places where Wet Hot American Summer shows off these cliches and makes fun of them, unfortunately they come off as either too forced or too quick for the audience to enjoy. By the end, you feel like you've watched a decades worth of movies in the span of one camp day, and your regretting the decisions you made in that time.
