Review of Wet Hot American Summer (2001) by Tim E — 21 Aug 2015
Wet Hot American Summer is movie about shenanigans that occur on the last day of a kids camp in 1981. It's just filled with oddities and awkwardness in terms of... well, everything; with some bizarre moments that hit the mark and others that miss so hard that they're kind of cringy.
I think the awkward balance of humor and seemingly surreal moments is what makes the film oddly charming and a guilty pleasure. It's never a movie I can boast about or even consider to be necessarily good, but the movie works with the right sort of atmosphere or crowd.
Would I find it fun on my own? Probably not. But with friends or under the influence of alcohol with friends, it has a presence.
