Review of Westworld (1973) by Bethany F — 13 May 2008
This movies set designs were so amazingly well done.
Roman world, Medieval world and finally West world were so accurate to what I've seen in old films that featured those era's that it was like watching 4 different films.
Yul Brynner was really creepy as the gunslinger the chased Richard Benjamin all over the 3/4 worlds.
I thought the most amazing scene in the film is when Yul Brynner confronts Jon and Peter after the bar fight, and their hung over, tired and sore.
They of course don't know that the robots have gone all Terminator, and when John says "Your Move" and is shot by the robot.
The reaction to it is so strange and shocking.
Both men don't even understand what has happened, and by the time they do Richard Benjamin is riding a mechanical horse as fast as he can out of town.
I thought some things were kind of ironically funny, like that the company wouldn't close the resort even though people were getting hurt.
"We can't close now or there won't be any faith in the resort" is what one guy says, but of course we all know that if the resort doesn't protect its guests then I'm sure people will lose more than their faith in the resort.
Also who the hell gave a loaded gun to the Yule Brenner robot?
WTF, was that about?
They should have had blanks in their guns, but that's just what I figured.
The suspense was great for this film, and the music was really well done.
As was the cinematography.
Beautifully directed, acted and put together.
Best western scifi picture I've seen.
