Review of West Side Story (1961) by Luxo J — 01 Aug 2012
This won ten Oscars including Best Picture. It's a movie musical based on the Broadway musical with the same name. It puts the tragedy of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet into the setting of a 1950's gang warfare in New York.
I liked the way the story of Romeo and Juliet was told in this because they made it really look like it suited that time. Unlike what Baz Lurhmann did.
This has all that a good movie musical needs. A good story, good music, the musical numbers are brilliant, a bit of comedy, and some good acting. I did think that the singing was a bit dodgy at times but that's alright, I don't think I could sing any better!
