West Side Story is a refreshing adaptation of an age-old tale with excellent cinematography, catchy songs, inherent charm and spectacular choreography, but what ruins this film is the acting which is subpar and at times incredibly amateurish (Wood's performance in particular) plus the tonal shift is distractingly jarring.
