Review of West Side Story (1961) by Jeffrey N — 17 Sep 2014
Energetic, but not at the standards of great musicals due to the power the film contain for being a faithful adaptation to the Shakespearean tragic love story; like whenever that story gets adapted, it uses too much power. The energy just wasn't getting any uplifts when there are some duds, despite having the qualities and talents that'd made this a Best Picture winner. It's entertaining like any stage play-based films with good matching cinematography and performances, but the clichéd power is usual with some duds. (B+).
