Review of West Side Story (1961) by Raji K — 16 Jan 2015
West Side Story is an updated version of Romeo and Juliet. Instead of the Montagues and Capulets, we have Puerto Rican gang known as the Sharks vs. an American Gang known as the Jets. Maria and Tony fall in love at first sight, but must deal with the fact that the two sides hate each other.
West Side Story is an instant classic, and Leonard Bernstein's score makes this one of the best films of all time. The direction times the action in sync with the music, and the performances rightfully earned this film 10 Oscars.
This movie stands the test of time and should be watched.
