A really great musical with knife fights, memorable characters and terrific songs. Rita Moreno stands out as Anita, but Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer more than carry their weight in the main love story.
The film is also very beautiful and full of the symbolism of color--very much appropriate to both gang warfare and the forbidden love between Tony and Maria. A classic for good reason.
