The sheer absurdity of casting Natalie Wood as a Puerto Rican, in addition to the inherent slowness of a movie made in 1961, is fortunately overshadowed by the painfully good music (though the broadway versions are even better), and the fabulous Rita Moreno, whose performance put the O in her EGOT.
