Review of West of Memphis (2012) by Arlene S — 06 Jan 2013
Fantastic, gripping documentary about how the justice system in Arkansas failed three teenagers wrongfully accused of murder. Director Amy Berg dissects the facts in great detail, leaving no stone unturned, resulting in a clear verdict of the innocence or guilt of the west memphis three.
The film stands in judgment of the police, judge and prosecutors who so clearly had a vendetta against Damien, Jessie and Jason because of their outcast social status. It's a difficult film to watch, due to the graphic crime scene photos and video, but it is a necessity to demonstrate the brutality of the crime, and to raise a voice in finding the REAL killers of these innocent children.
This film will win best documentary at the Academy Awards this year, bet on it.
