Review of West of Memphis (2012) by Dan S — 16 Sep 2013
CONCUR with most critics! "A real-life horror story, made no less shocking by the familiarity of its early scenes" as Moira MacDonald from Seattle Times said. Colin Covert from the Minneapolis Star Tribune commented: "A true-crime story that begins with a notorious murder case and grows into a chilling indictment of the American justice system.
" Indeed! Our legal system failed these teens miserably and taking into account where the crime took place (Arkansas) and the low socio-economic status of the teens families, I believe they played a role in their demise as well.
Three teens were tried and convicted in 1994 of the 1993 murders of three boys in West Memphis, Arkansas. During the trial allegations were made that the boys were killed and castrated as part of a Satanic ritual.
Other testimony refutes that saying wild animals probably chewed body parts. In 2007 new DNA evidence did NOT implicate any of the three teens, but did match one of the boy's step fathers! To this day I believe a family member killed all three boys.
A number of documentaries have been based on the case, and celebrities and musicians have held fund raisers in the belief that they are innocent. As of today the killer is loose but thankfully three innocent people have been released after spending 18 years in prison.
This case will continue haunting the South and for those interested in the legal system process, it is a must see! RECOMMENDED!!!
