Review of West Is West (2010) by Manish M — 12 Mar 2011
A disappointing sequel to East is East tries to be cute by taking a long (a-very-long) position in Profanity, Inc. stock; all of it delivered in a northern accent.... and ends up a little short on real humour. Not to mention it's borderline racist.
There is a scene in West is West where an elderly poor-looking (and hence, we must assume, very wise and spiritual) local remarks "Natives?! What sort of imperialist bullshit is this?" Oh, the irony. This is what I'd call this entire film. It's in a junior league of Eat. Pray. Love: not quite as infuriating yet, but will be... when it grows up.
