Review of Werewolf of London (1935) by Blais E — 15 Mar 2011
The first and one of the best werewolf movies, released 5 years before Universal's "The Wolfman". Henry Hull is superb as mild-mannered botanist Dr. Wilfred Glendon who becomes a moonbayer after he is bitten by a WW in Tibet.
He cultivates the rare Mariphasa Lupina Lumino, a flower whose sap is the antidote to his lycanthropy, also sought after by rival scientist/werewolf, the mysterious Dr. Yogami (Charlie Chan's Warner Oland).
A typically moodily-atmospheric flick from Universal, with good performances, and spare, yet very effective werewolf make-up.
