Review of Were the World Mine (2008) by Neil R — 18 Jan 2010
So is this pretty much the gayest gay movie ever but I kinda liked it. I actually enjoyed it's intriguing potential and creative innovation more than the film itself. The film plays like a sort of alternate version of Shakespeare's Midsummer's night dream but with all boys and featuring the play within the actual movie.
The leads are attractive and have a nice but slightly forced chemistry while the musical numbers should be applauded for their effort and the obvious talent that went into them. The only thing sorely and sadly lacking in the film is a real budget.
And this movie certainly could have flourished with more of one. However, the film's ultimate intent succeeds well. And although the film feels far fetched and silly. Just remember it's sort of a fairy, fairy tale.
