Review of We're the Millers (2013) by Ola G — 19 Sep 2015
A low-level marijuana dealer named David Clark (Jason Sudeikis) who lives in Denver is robbed of his money and stash, some of which he owes to his wealthy drug lord supplier Brad Gurdlinger (Ed Helms). After David is brought to him, Gurdlinger forces David to smuggle marijuana from Mexico as a solution to clear his debt. Realizing that one man attempting to get through customs is too suspicious, he hires a middle-aged stripper neighbor stage-named Rose (Jennifer Aniston), a runaway and petty thief named Casey (Emma Roberts), and his 18-year-old neighbor Kenny (Will Poulter), to pose as a bogus family called the "Millers". When the Millers reach the compound, they find out that the amount of marijuana they were picking up is not "a smidge" as Gurdlinger had informed them, but actually two tons...
I do like Jason Sudeikis as he has such a natural way of doing comedy and he hits the mark every time. The David Clark character is truly fitting Jason Sudeikis as he gets to go full on with this role. Emma Roberts, Will Poulter and the crazy Ed Helms fits in their characters shoes as well. The only one that does feel a bit off and out of the comfort zone is Jennifer Aniston. She is a great comedienne but this role makes her look a bit uncertain and vague. She simply can´t pull off the stripper role in my mind, she just doesn´t have that in her. The chemistry between the four is however pretty solid and we get some quite humorous scenes between them. The script is funny and raunchy and just enough over the top and I do love the fact that they makers of this film have chosen to go all in with certain scenes. Like the scene when Kenny is bit by a tarantula on the genitals. "We´re the Millers" is an ok comedy you will enjoy while it plays, but it´s not something that you will remember for years.
