Review of We're No Angels (1989) by R.c. K — 06 Dec 2007
This is a film where the sum of its parts is better than the final product entirely. De Niro, who I always believed to be overrated, proves his comedy chops here with overabundant and overstretched facial expressions while Penn is downright annoying.
While Mamet's script and Jordan's direction raise some interesting religious questions and contain some nice potential for comedy, the cast and finished product don't reflect that potential and the film falters.
I blame the performances, mainly, for this failure of a film.
