Review of Wendy and Lucy (2008) by David H — 06 Feb 2009
Decent cinema verite and a good performance by Michelle Williams, but I found myself wanting more story - the writing was too thin. The entire narrative looked at just a few days - hours, even - of this young woman's financially insecure life, and we didn't get any clues or much context for understanding why she's in that situation, where she came from, etc.
The film is just a brief snapshot of a story, and ends far too abruptly. Maybe I'm being harsh because I'm frighteningly close to being in her predicament myself.
